I googled "pedo bear sighting" and gots LOTS of links.  Didn't understand any of them however, once I linked to them.

Then I googled "what is pedo bear" and found this sight with some more info, which is disturbing.   

So not sure if someone hacked onto the flashing sign and is spoofing the community, which seems likely since the highway patrol didn't know why their sign was saying this.   Or of the worse side, there is someone posting the "pedo bear" emblem and there is reason to suspect this person is actively searching out victims.   It appears to be an underground (web grown) sub culture of pedophiles from my understanding.

Why am I thinking I DON'T want to click on those links?  I've heard of people hacking into the signs before.  If the FHP doesn't know anything about it I'd guess it was a hacking job especially since it's the weekend.  Were there workers out there or just the signs?

No workers. And I am with you I googled pedo bear but I DO NOT want to open any websites. It is disturbing. And weird, this past Friday night at 9pm an ice crean van was going through the neighborhood! WTH! First of all I have been here 10yrs and NEVER seen an ice cream van, we have a huge "no solicitation" sign out front of the neighborhood. So my Dh ran outside to try and get a tag but we couldn't find him. He wasn't running the normal music either. But I am just leary of that sort of thing so it may have been nothing. Still strange though

He actually originated from Japan, where he was called Kuma, literally "Bear". Some argue the Japanese omitted the "Pedo-" prefix to avoid redundancy since most anything churned out in Japan is assumed to promote pedophilia.
